Eating for Pleasure, People & Planet by Tom Hunt | Eco-Reads Volume. 2

Eating for Pleasure, People & Planet | Eco-Reads Volume. 2

Not being a particular Nigella in the kitchen, I often shy away from cookbooks, deeming them often too complex for my culinary skill set. But, being a person who is heavily into sustainability, reducing waste and the general climate crisis we are in the midst of, I was drawn to Eating for Pleasure, People & Planet upon a recent library visit.

The way best to describe this book would be that it is more than just your run-of-the-mill sustainable cookback. What author Hunt brings is a comprehensive guide to the large-scale issue of our planets food chain, from land to plate. With this, provides a vast amount of knowledge for us, the reader, to really understand the effects that the foods we choose to consume, really has on the environment.

Bordering on scientific, the book helps educate on how foods can both help and hamper the current climate crisis. From foods helping aid soil fertility to the real benefits of eating foods within their desired season. I personally found, the first 60 pages of the book (before the recipe began) incredibly important in my understanding of food; something I have not experienced before with a cookbook.

"Shopping locally doesn't have to take much of your time. However, shopping in your local and global community is time well spent"

Overall, Eating for Pleasure, People & Planet, for an eco- conscious individual, offers a vast amount of information on the complexities of our planet's natural resources. It offers a chance to really understand the need for better consideration of the foods we buy and help sustain the amount needed for the population. Not only this, the recipes combine both easy to complex; for a person who is no dab hand in the kitchen, I found the recipes easy to follow and provided me chance explore food combinations I may not have done otherwise. You'll definitely take a thing or two away from this book, that is for sure.
